The Commoner and Title Nine

No, I'm not talking about the movement for women athletics.  Which I really think is just about equality for college athletes.  I'm talking about the store.

Anyway they are my favorite line of clothing.  I'm trying to convert everything to Title Nine.  The clothing is comfy, stylish, and looks great.  I wear some of their items for running, some for lounging, and some are work wear.

One week they had pants on sale.  I trusted the clothing line for athletes and bought them.  They were so low rise you could almost see the back of my knees when I bent over.
Anyway I had to return something because it kind of fit like the above pants and since I pass through Los Gatos on my way from Santa Cruz Forum to San Jose State Class I decided to go to the Title Nine store to  return the pants and stroll through the richy rich town.
They have such beautiful shops.  I didn't even really go in any.  I stopped for some pizza.  I learned that you can just walk through the cross walk and everyone stops.  I learned this because I almost ran over  a small child who was pushing a stroller.
All the people there look like this
or like that
or like that.

I went into this great candy store where they sold tons of candy and gelato that was unbelievable.  It was so good.  It was delicious.

I wonder why all of these people have nothing to do on a Friday at 3PM?  All the cafes were full of beautiful people.

I'm back in class.  I still can't talk.  The pharmacist at the wonderful natural pharmacy in Los Gatos sold me organic throat spray.  She said my immune system is worn down from the marathon.  I should be better in no time after I take all of the potions she sold me.  She must be right, she has a store in Los Gatos

Happy Friday People.....

I did my best Marlon Brando trying to present my cultural autobiography with no voice.  NO VOICE  and it's late and I'm tired.

This baby goat is here to make you smile.
I'm obsessed with this song.
How is this a white irish guy?  Well not the picture.  The singer
Bella is here to make you smile too.
And because I'm still having marathon withdrawals.  Way back Wednesday to Chicago last year.

The Commoner and Election Day

I voted by mail three weeks ago.  They don't give you a sticker when you vote by mail so early.
My new 'office' lies behind the librarians vast desk in the school library.  Our school library was an actual voting center with actual voter workers.  I watched them as I walked in and out of the library on my daily 'rounds'.  Sometimes there were a lot of people there mostly there weren't.  They looked like this.

That is truly your civil service.  I wonder if they get paid.  If I did that job I would have to entertain myself by saying things like

  • Don't forget to vote for me
  • Good for you vote early and vote often
  • Oh good -your back to vote again today
These mind games probably would have shut down voting in California.
I don't usually open the door for sales people or anything but when Benjie got excited I looked out and thought I knew the person and should open the door to whatever they were selling.

They were actually looking for the one person in the house who hadn't yet voted.  I asked how they knew who didn't vote because that was super creepy.  Apparently they can find out from board of elections and then go out and find the supporter.  This is all super creepy to me.

That person in my house who doesn't vote probably could have had these pretty girls take him to dinner and bring him to the polls.  That's a super dating opportunity right there.
Today was my first post marathon real run.  I treated my self to some walking.  It went well.  I am trying to run a 1:50 half marathon before January 15th so I can get guaranteed entry to New York City Marathon.  Thats 20 minutes off my PR.  No problem right?
Ha Ha I like that one....

The Commoner and it's Monday

It's Monday and all I have is some randoms

I spent the evening working on a presentation for class.  I had to explain my ADHD which makes formatting anything an impossibility.  I just throw stuff on slides-she formatted.  Great team.

Remember when I gave up capitalizing?

So believe it or not there are people in the world that do not like me.  I know -I'm so charming.  I've realized that what people say when they have to greet someone they don't like is
Take note of who says 'hey there!" to you!

This is one of my favorites
Seriously,  She has to spend most of the time with her hand over my mouth.  Sometimes she let's go to sneeze and that's when I speak my mind and they she looks like this.

Do you know what Uber is?  I have no idea.  I know some young girls at Nike women told me to use it for a ride but I have no idea.  Then I saw some woman was charged 352 dollars for Uber.  What on earth is it?

Finally it's the day after the NYC marathon so there are lots of pictures and stories.  Hey Tiki Barber thought he was going sub 4 and he went over 5.  Hey Tiki I missed my goal too.

You may pick the winners of the marathon as your idols-but this woman is mine.  She took 20 selfies of herself with men along the way of the race and made funny captions.  It's AWESOME!!! You have to read it.   THIS is how you run a marathon

The Commoner and Elite Runners

First of all-this is the day of the year when you say all day long-What time is it?  It is also the day of the year that marks more darkness and I really hate the darkness.  Happy Standard Daylight Time.

So today was the New York City Marathon.  Since I am still going through marathon withdrawal I was quite moved to watch the runners.  I really wish someday the odds will be ever in my favor and I get to run.
So I watched the women's elite start the race in a small pack way ahead of everyone else.  I thought about the elites and was like please

You run for 2 hours or so?  I run for five-who's tougher?
You have all day for runs, strength training, eating properly, massages, and sleeping?  Please-I work 12 hours a day and am going to school full time. You are kind of wimpy.
You get paid to go to these races and then they pay you for placing?  Please.  I pay for all my own travel and race fees and I put my name in a lottery in hopes that I get to run.  You are kind of wimpy.

Tell me really -who is the elite runner?
Commentators say stupid things.  For instance today he said, "You know these runners aren't like someone who just gets off the couch and runs a 4 hour marathon."  Really?  I don't know anyone who just gets off the couch and runs a four hour marathon.  Douchy guy
So I'm watching Nik Wallenda cross a high wire.  I'm pretty sure he's this decades David Blane.

Have a great week!

The Commoner and the Running Break

It's very nice to not have to run right now.  I could run-I did go for a walk and that took forever....but it's nice to give any hidden injuries a rest before I begin again.
We went to Target to look at Christmas stuff.  Not really but that's what happened.  November 1st-Tis the Season

Ridiculous-two months of Christmas.  Anyway.......

As I reflect on my marathon and it's awesome and not so awesome aspects.  I was lucky enough to see a video of myself crossing the finish.  I looked to be in pain.  Not the kind of pain because you are tired.  The kind of pain you have when you are injured....
where's Waldo?

I've decided to take a year off from marathons to kind of get my running under control.   I've decided that I am seriously going to hire a running coach.  I'm encouraged by the results of women in my age group, but I'm totally aware of what running distance does to your body.  I need someone who is going to kick my ass but not hurt me terribly.

My new goal is to rock the half marathons and get my body under control.  Unless of course-I am excepted into the New York marathon.  Then all bets are off.

Anyway I'm sad because I am not running the New York City Marathon.  It's the whole reason I run marathons.  But I had my turn.
I also need more running by water!!

The Commoner's Halloween

Here are five things from today.

There were no students on Halloween today so there was no Halloween fun.
Today was also the Giant's Parade.  I think this is Barry Bonds.  He was not in the parade but he was at the parade.  I was not at the parade I was at work hearing about great things that presenters do in their lives.
Today officially ends the drought. It won't stop raining and I'm just glad it wasn't a Santa Cruz Friday or a San Jose State Friday or worst yet a Santa Cruz to San Jose Friday over crazy Highway 17.  Now that we have rain it isn't going to stop.
Some days I have to muster up all the New York Italian I possibly can.  Some days you have to remember you are really tough and can pretty much keep going because you are New York Italian.  Today was definitely one of those days.
Goodbye baseball we will see you in the spring-in the meantime we have a long winter to get through.
