The Commoner Thinks some People Have A Lot Of Nerve

One of my New Year's Resolutions is to try and avoid getting into situations where I could get beat up.  Now remember that this commoner never severed those New York roots so there is always the chance that the New Yorker in me rears it's head and causes me to blow up.  You never know.

I had to make a few trips this morning.  First I had to stop at Nob Hill and buy a big box of chips and some diet 7UP for my mandatory contribution to snacks in the lounge Friday.  Why we have this tradition I really don't understand.  Food slop that sits out all day and which I try to avoid like the plague because it's all calories and fat.  Twenty bucks later I was out the door and headed to Starbucks.

I'm really grateful that  I had already waited on the rather long line and was now at the counter squashed between the milk and sugar stand, the bathroom, and the place where you get your coffee-minding my own business and avoiding the small talk.   Oh yes and also squashed with the other customers, some who were wearing pajamas.

So I'm standing there, blearily waiting, contemplating the $20 dollars I just spent on lounge snacks when in through the door walks a very tall very blond man who looked like Micky Rourke in the Wrestler but with shorter hair.  Seriously he was that giant.

Well he sauntered in and I was a little taken because he just looked well-menacing.  I looked at his t-shirt -it didn't say anything local and I watched as he placed his things on the window bar place. You know one of those places like in the city where you can drink your coffee and watch people walking by? Only with no people there-so I thought hmm this guys is here to use the bathroom or steel sugar.

But you know I'm watching this guy now because if I have to be on the news or anything I want to have my details straight.  By now there are 3 people on line and Starbucks for ONCE is not asking which roast you want but they are cranking.

Blond wrestler dude saunters right up to the cashier and orders a slew of stuff.  Did you read that?  Right up to the cashier in front of the two guys waiting on line.  The cute little cashier girl doesn't know this she takes the order.

I'm watching saying hey dude in the Giants (Baseball) Shirt, Hey guy going to work-say something-SAY SOMETHING!! He just cut you in line.  The commoner HATES line cutters.  But they knew something was up with this guy and they just stood there looking at the wrestler like WTF?  But they don't say a word.  Not to the cashier-not to  anyone.  And wrestler dude just keeps placing his order.

I so want to say to someone ANYONE "DO YOU SEE WHAT'S GOING ON?  THE WRESTLER WALKED RIGHT IN AND CUT IN LINE!!!!"  But I don't because people who can beat me up or put me in a choke hold are a phobia of mine.

I'm out of here I think.  I have chips to get to the lounge.   On the way out of the parking lot I notice a police car drive in.  I almost pulled over and reported the wrestling, line jumper, but decided that my New Years Resolution to avoid getting beat up or arrested took precedence.  After all-I have chips to deliver to hungry teachers.

But I couldn't help thinking the wrestler was no commoner-and he had a lot of nerve.

A Commoner's Guide to Life: No The Commoner was not In Saudi Arabia

No The Commoner was not In Saudi Arabia

Since I have 130,371 emails in my Yahoo account it's safe to say one of my New Year's Resolutions has been to actually try and delete some of those.  It's a hard resolution to keep when there is so much that is interesting in my email.

There are people from Kenya who want me to deposit a check, there are people who are stranded in England without their passport, and there are emails from Fed Ex, Yahoo about my account being breached, and even from myself selling Rolexes.  I'm not kidding-I've seen those.

I have a theory and work under the assumption that nothing on the internet is private or safe.  It's okay It's not one of my phobias, and I'm okay with it.  So the other day when I saw an email from Facebook saying someone signed in from an unusual computer-I ignored it.  I'm pretty good (KNOCK ON WOOD) at avoiding viruses and ignoring things.

Later on that night I logged onto facebook on my desk top to catch up on Bejeweled.  I'm a little obsessed to finish in the top 3 each week and I was in 5th.  I had a lot of work to do.  Well lo and behold (I resolved to use that word a little more often)  a message popped up and said I had to verify wether I had checked in FB on some other computer.  I thought you mean other than the 5 ways I have of logging on now?  But I had no choice and the leaderboard was jostling and time was wasting.

Okay I had to click.  It then said that I had to verify if I was in this 'strange' location and if I was- no problem.  Up pops  one of those 4square type maps of SAUDI ARABIA!!!  I start freaking out -OMG OMG OMG someone in Saudi Arabia knows my password -someone could be playing Bejeweled in my name right now?

When I clicked that it wasn't me I was instructed to create a new password.  Not just any password or the variation of the usual password but a word that wasn't in the dictionary, contained numbers, capital letters, and a pigs eye.

All of a sudden I started to have one of my freak outs.  You know when I start jumping around and the dogs start thinking I'm going to break out in a game of fetch, or let's have a treat.  I tell Rob that the FBI is now sure that I am a teacher with ties to terrorists in Saudi Arabia and for sure I'm going to be taken into custody and water boarded by Kiefer Sutherland. I've seen this happen on TV and Locked up Abroad.  I'm a gonner I know it.

Well so far none of that has happened.  I'm thankful to Mark Zuckerburg for looking out for a commoner's privacy and the security of the good old USA.  Mostly I'm sure in a few days I will never remember this password that isn't in the dictionary or what the pig's eye looks like and I'll be locked out forever.  It's good to know if that happens someone, somewhere in the world can update my status' for me.  And keep my bejeweled score up.

The Commoner Must Choose Sides

Well my worlds have collided.  One of my resolutions is to be more decisive and so commoners -many of you have asked and tonight I am announcing which team I will be supporting on Sunday.

Let me say first of all that I'm a winner no matter what since whichever team goes is my team.  But a true commoner, given the choice I've been given (can we call this movie commoner's choice?)  can truly choose the commoner in this event.

Now remember that I have a son named Joe and he's named after two people-one of them is my husband, the other is Joe Montana.  Remember also that my maiden name is DiBartolo-which in New York meant nothing other than I was Italian.  But here in California it means that people often question whether I am a commoner at all since everyone knows that the DiBartolos own the 49ers.  I often let them wonder.  I myself figure maybe they will think I am related and hire me or something.

When faced with a choice as this a true commoner can only make one choice for this game and this game only.  A true commoner can only choose the 49ers and here's why.

The 49ers live in a crappy stadium that is really old and horrible.  They will be leaving in a few years but for now.  It's really bad.  It's old, it's windy, its icky.  It's might be too icky for even a commoner and so bad that the baseball Giants went uptown.  The one hope all San Franciscans have is that the power stay on.  Remember that Monday Night America?

The Giants have a state of the art beautiful stadium which at one time was named after them even though the Jets played there too.  They are very elite.  They will never have a power outage.

The Giants have Eli Manning-the 49ers have Alex Smith.  Let's say he's no Eli Manning and for 6 years or so every San Franciscan worth their salt mocked and wished for another quarter back.  Any quarter back.  Still sometimes even last Saturday before he made that heroic touch down I myself said imagine what we could do with a good quarterback.

Lastly the Giants are part of the mega-media machine that is New York.  I can't imagine the buzz going on-and I'm sorry skinny, annoying Kelly Rippa-you really shouldn't be planning the ticker tape parade quite yet.  The 49ers? Not so much-we're still taking apart the red carpet from the golden globes.

The 49ers are the Cinderella team.  This is the same team as last year.  New coach though-and what a coach he is and there's the possibility that two brothers could coach against each other in a Superbowl.  That's cool.

In fact the 49er fans are so confused they are telling every one wear red-get loud.  The only problem with that? The Giants will be wearing red as well.

I always thought it was great to be a fan of both Giants-it's too bad they've collided but I look at it this way-it's one way to get New Yorkers out to California.

And Giants if you wn -and you very well may-you HAVE to beat the Patriots and I'll be cheering you on.  So today I say GO RED-and apply that as it needs.  So no crap talking either side, good luck, both teams, keep it close and I am guaranteed a happy ending.  That is VERY uncommon.
