Don't be ridiculous this isn't me or my hair. This is Chaz Dean and he makes Wenn Hair Care Products. Chaz represents the perfect marriage of many of my favorite things.
He was on one of my favorite reality shows-Flipping Out. Flipping out has the guy Jeff who could be my brother and he flips houses. He tells it like it is and makes no apologies. He was remodeling Chaz's studio and ran into a problem because Chaz let a homeless woman named Spirit live in his back yard. Jeff didn't like Spirit living outside of a Beverly Hills Salon and wanted her gone in spite of the fact she had lived there for many years and In the midst of this argument Spirit died and Chaz was so sadly upset about it. What a great guy he is-myself and Jeff were both touched.
Next, he sells his products on QVC. He's a nice, likeable guy and his products come in HUGE bottles and are available on Easy Pay. And when you watch him on TV you get to see what a really great guy he is-so of course I have his pomegranate hair care kit. I have to . What kind of person would I be if I didn't support this great guy.
A few weeks ago I went to a new stylists and when I told her I wanted layers she had another suggestion-EXTENSIONS!!! Can you imagine a commoner with extensions? Well you've met one now. I don't have a lot just a few to fill out my head, but I have them and they are fantastic.
The one thing about extensions she told me was that I couldn't go underwater in a hot tub or go to sleep with a wet head. So I bought the special brush and wa lla. Extensions.
But I'll tell you this, as great as they look when I get tired they kind of bother me. I start playing with them and they can annoy me. But I've found the perfect solution. Wenn Cleansing Conditioner.
Although I've had this product for a long time I've never used it until now. But I know that Chaz says you have to use a lot of it. Like a ton of it. Like 30 pumps, the more the better and if you don't do it right your hair will be greasy which will make my extensions hurt more.
So I watched the video and followed the directions-wet head-30 pumps -massage-wait -rinse-and you know what? It's so great. My hair smells good, it looks good (come on you know it does), my extensions are clean and conditioned and I so much more zen.
So if you want to try something uncommon try it. Try Wenn hair care-you'll look fabulous. Sorry homeless people, you can't live behind my house.
Being from New York and going to a school named St. Brigid's followed by a high school full of Irish Americans meant I had a strong connection to St. Patrick's Day long before I married a man from Dublin.
I remember the St Brigid's Fife and Drum Corp and learning Irish songs when I was in grade school chorus. I remember everyone being Irish in high school. And Rob came along-really it was no big deal.
It's no big deal because for the Irish and for New Yorkers St. Patrick's Day consists of the following things-a parade, corn beef and cabbage, wearing green, and beer.
That's New York. I don't live there any more. No matter how many times I click my heals together -I'm still in California and they do everything different here-especially St. Patrick's Day.
I've gotten over the fact that one of the classroom tradition is these wacky visits from leprechauns. Teachers will stay after school-trash their classrooms, cover their hands in green paint and stamp it over the wall pretending that a leprechaun had invaded the classroom. Really? That's ridiculous. We never did that in New York, they don't do that in Ireland, and why are you trashing your own classroom?
Another thing they do is pinch you if you aren't wearing green. Really? Is that the best you can do?
But all that my friends pales in comparison to what I saw in my local supermarket's deli last week. Do you see that picture at the top of my blog? (I can't move it or I would). They have bought back corn beef sandwiches just for St Patrick's Day. Have you seen the names? Reuben and Rachel.
Reuben and Rachel -REUBEN ! The Irish sandwich is named REUBEN.
Toto-once again I can attest we're not in Kansas anymore-or New York -or Dublin. Top of the morning and shalom to all of you.
Any of us who worked our way through Catholic School know one thing-no matter what else Lent is important. It can save your very soul from Hell-or at least gain back some of those points you lost along the way-Fill in any appropriate sin here.
So even though I hardly ever go to church there are certain non-negotiables to being Catholic and observing Lent is one of them. You can't eat meat on Friday and you have to make some observation, some offering, or some sacrifice.
Over the past few years I have taken to observing the Annual Lenten Acts of Random Kindness. This is hard work and during Lent becomes almost an obsession and definitely a burden. Now I'm a nice person I think -but I don't go out of my way to be kind because I really go out of my way to mind my own business. It's hard to marry the two.
Everyone waits for this event. I'm like the Santa of the town. You never know where I may strike. I've done some great acts-like anonymous coffee, or money in a meter (I love that meter thing the best but we don't have any). One time, while running through San Jose airport to catch a flight I stopped and told someone -"excuse me your coat is dragging." that was super nice I thought. One time I forced commoner Kristen to take my last Excedrin. I think I yelled at her that she had to because I needed to get an act in.
It's very stressful, but all Lenten sacrifices are. Over the years I've gotten pretty good at it. Sometimes I think I've gotten so good at it that these don't really seem like acts of kindness.
Maybe because I'm so much nicer now. LOL. So now when I do something nice but not so special I'll put it on reserve in case I can't find anything later. For instance sometimes I'll make my husband a new cup of tea-which is not really anything special, but I declare it my random act unless I can't find something better. The other day I took my Starbucks cup out of the Target cart and threw it away instead of leaving it there. Sometimes I'll wave someone on in traffic and go there's the act for the day, that's all I have.
By the time these 40 days are over and I get to Easter I've had enough of being kind. It's so much work. Trying to find something nice to do every day? Come on that's hard-and your not really supposed to talk about the acts-it's like Kris Kringle. But I tell you what-after 40 days of random acts of Kindness comes 6 weeks of extra Bitchiness. Remember Seinfeld? Serenity now insanity later? The same theory holds here.
I just hope that at the end of Lent, the ghosts of those nuns from high school and maybe God himself will have noticed how good I did and I'll be good for a little while longer.
Be on the lookout for a random act of kindness-it's probably me.
